La Porte vs Deer Park Preview

Tomorrow is the big game! Today I have a little bit of a preview.

La Porte is 5-2, 3-0 in district 22-6A. They have clinched a playoff spot

Deer Park is 6-2, 4-0 in district 22-6A. They have also clinched a playoff spot.

Winner will have a inside track on the district championship, but this game probably will not affect playoff positioning as Deer Park will be Division 1 with the big schools, while La Porte will be Division 2 with the smaller schools.

La Porte's offense has been more balanced than we've seen in years. Senior Quarterback and Memphis commitment Austin Upshaw has been able to open up the passing attack, adding to the already potent running game. Deer Park will not be able to stack 10 men in the box like they have the last few seasons to varying success. La Porte is very hard to read with Upshaw, Cobra Jones and Kevrin Busby all very capable of hitting big plays on the ground. The receiving corps of Busby, Trent Ormsbee, Hunter Hebert, Damien Phillips and Jadon McConnell give defenses fits and all are equal receiving threats.

Deer Park on offense features running back Angel Vargas, who averages about 30 carries a game, opening up some passing lanes for Quarterback Hunter Becton. Becton is very efficient throwing the ball so far this season. La Porte's defense will focus on stopping Vargas and Deer Park will likely have to rely on the pass more in this game.

La Porte's defense will be tested, led by Senior and U of Houston commit Terrel Bernard.

Should be a heck of a game, as always!
