Pearland Dawson visited La Porte last Friday at Bulldog Stadium for the big warm-up scrimmage before the real thing kicks off this Friday Night. The teams had a handful of sets of plays in a controlled scrimmage and then played two quarters of live action with the clock running.
La Porte's defense settled in nicely in the controlled scrimmage. Good tackling and pressure resulted in many negative and one or two yard plays for the Dawson offense. The Bulldog linebackers look the part this year for sure.
The Bulldog offense struggled early, but seemed to move the ball better by the end of the controlled scrimmage. The second team offense found the end zone, moving down the field on the legs of Sophomore Quarterback Austin Upshaw. Sophomore Linebacker/Running Back Terrell Bernard ran the ball for the score from a yard out.
In the live quarters, Dawson turned up the intensity and scored a few times on the Bulldogs showing some weakness that surely will be worked out this week at practice.
Overall it was a good warm up and La Porte will be back at Bulldog Stadium Friday night against the Clear Brook Wolverines in the first game of the season.
