Jonathan Lewis Class of 2014 RB Season Highlights 2011

Jonathan Lewis was La Porte's second leading rusher in 2011 with over 500 yards rushing on the season.  The Sophomore made honorable mention on the 21-5A all district team.

Jonathan has good size at 6'0" 165 with great speed and explosive play-making ability.  He will be back with one of the best stables of running backs in the Houston area along with Keith Whitely and Taejon Wearen.  With the entire starting offensive line returning Lewis is in for a great season next year.

Tony Briones Class of 2013 Season Highlights 2011

Tony Briones is a 6' 250lbs offensive guard.  Tony started as a sophomore last season and improved this season becoming first team all 21-5A.

Briones is a physically and athletically imposing presence up front.  He is one of the best pulling guards I have ever seen.  When he is coming around the edge he is going to pancake someone.  Tony definitely has the ability to play at the next level, but his size will be an issue for the bigger D1 schools.  Tony will be one of the anchors of a 2012 offensive line that is returning all of its starters from last seasons regional finalist team.

Cameron Whilley Class of 2012 Highlights

Cameron Whilley is a 6'2" 200 lb Senior Outside Linebacker.  Very good speed off the edge and also good in coverage.  He was a team leader and everything you could hope for in a football player.  Hard nosed and loves to play football.  He currently has no offers that I'm aware of and that should change before signing day as he will make a college team happy with his all around ability.

Hoza Scott C/O 2014 Sophomore Season Highlights

Sophomore Linebacker Hoza Scott turned in a awesome season in 2011.  Hoza had four defensive touchdowns and made first team all district in 21-5A loaded with linebackers with next level ability. As you can see in the highlights, Scott creates turnovers and is a play maker. At 6'3" 215 he is still growing into his frame.  Texas A&M has shown lots of interest over the season, but I expect lots of colleges will be offering next season.

Victor Holmes Class of 2014 Highlights

Victor Holmes wrapped up a great Sophomore season with La Porte in the Regional finals, he also was First Team All District as a kick returner.  Holmes is a great athlete who is still growing.  Lightning quickness and decision making ability make him an elite prospect over the next two seasons.  He started the season as a Quarterback rotating in with Senior Josh Vidales.  He showed explosive play-making ability at times.  Later in the season he moved full time to Free Safety where he settled in as a solid tackler with great closing speed.

I expect we will see Holmes on both sides of the ball next season as a change of pace Quarterback and also at the Safety position again.

Aaron Nance-Garrett 2011 Highlights #txhsfb

Highlights from Aaron Nance-Garrett's Senior Season.  He has received some interest from colleges, but not nearly enough.  He is a 6'3" 210lbs Safety/Wide Receiver.  With La Porte's running offense he was not given enough chances through the air.  Aaron is a VERY physical player who contributed at least one big hit a week.

Final Port Arthur Memorial 34 La Porte 6 Postgame Analysis

The La Porte Bulldogs 2011 season came to an end last Saturday in Reliant Stadium at the hands of the Port Arthur Memorial Titans 34-6.

The Bulldogs came into this week's game after an emotional high last week finally beating the Katy Tigers.  This week it was the Titans getting their revenge on La Porte after the Bulldogs had won the last 5 meetings.  Port Arthur came into this game with a chip on their shoulder and a senior laden squad with their eyes on the big prize.

The first half was a closely contested defensive struggle.  Port Arthur won the toss and elected to receive.  Two  plays and two big La Porte stops on first and second down.  However Senior Titan Quarterback Terrence Singleton would open it up on 3rd down with a deep pinpoint pass to Senior Receiver Jhajuan Seales to the La Porte 20 and two plays later Senior Running Back Nate Holmes would take a inside hand-off and score from 20 yards out for a 7-0 Port Arthur lead.

A three and out for La Porte and Port Arthur would get the next drive started inside La Porte territory.  However the La Porte defense would clamp down as they did all season and get a big stop.  This would begin a defensive battle for the rest of the half.

La Porte would get something going on offense with Junior First Team All District Kicker Eric Medina booting two field goals after a couple sustained drives.  The first was a 46 yarder to make the score 7-3 Port Arthur with 42 seconds left in the first quarter.  A 25 yard pass from Senior Quarterback Josh Vidales to Sophomore Tight End Trevor Nelson set up the 46 yard attempt and conversion.

The second field goal was a 34 yard strike by Medina.  It came on a drive that started at the La Porte 37 yard line.  A few runs by Junior Running Back Keith Whitely and Sophomore Running Back Jonathan Lewis as well as a pass from Vidales to Senior Tight End Blake Turlington set up the attempt and conversion.  It was Port Arthur Memorial with the 7-6 lead with 5:25 left in the half.  It appeared the momentum was shifting towards the Bulldogs.

However that would be it for the La Porte scoring and Port Arthur Memorial would answer with a field goal of their own from Sophomore Kicker Ricardo Estupian.  A 39 yard field goal to be exact and the game would go to the half with Port Arthur leading La Porte 10-6.

The Bulldogs held it together in the first half and looked as if they could make a charge, but all momentum went out the window in the first possession of the second half.  A fumble on the second play from scrimmage recovered by the Titans seemed to suck the life out of the Bulldogs offense.

The Dark Side defense shut down the Titans after the fumble, but the offense could not recover.  Another three and out and the Titans took over at their own 22 yard line.  The flood gates would open and this was the beginning of the end.  Seales took a wide receiver screen, juked a couple defenders and there was nothing but daylight in front of him.  Port Arthur would take a 17-6 lead with seven minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

La Porte took over, but again the Titans defense would swarm to the ball causing another three and out.  The defense lost control giving Port Arthur 30 yards on personal foul penalties and Singleton made them pay again with a electrifying 20 yard touchdown run to make the score 24-6 Titans with 3:19 left in the 3rd.

The Titans were not done. After yet another three and out there was another run by Singleton, a 34 yard scamper, would put the nail in the coffin and give Port Arthur Memorial a 31-6 lead with 46 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.  It was a disastrous turn of events and without a passing game it was an impossible deficit.  La Porte's offense had no first downs in the quarter.

Port Arthur would add a field goal in the 4th quarter to make it a final 34-6.  La Porte Sophomore Running Back Taejon Wearen had a couple big runs in the 4th, but it was too little too late for the Bulldogs.

We came into the game knowing the Titans were bigger and faster than the Bulldogs, but La Porte had always beaten them in all other areas of the game the previous five meetings.  This time Port Arthur had all the answers and will move on to the state semifinals.

There is plenty coming back and to look forward to for La Porte as Coach LaReau is building a great program here in La Porte that is getting better every year.  La Porte is very proud of this team and their resolve throughout the year.  The Bulldogs will be back next year bigger and better!

Port Arthur Memorial 34 La Porte 6

La Porte took a haymaker in the 3rd quarter and couldn't recover. Three touchdowns for the Titans in the 3rd ended the Bulldogs season.

Great season La Porte! The seniors had a great season and there is plenty coming back next season.

Send Off For The Players Saturday

Following details have been received.  Come out and show your support before you head to Reliant Stadium!

From the school district:

A community send-off is being planned for the La Porte Bulldogs as they get ready to leave for their Region III championship game against the Port Arthur Memorial Titans this Saturday.  Community members can show their support for the hometown team by cheering them on from one of two locations on Saturday morning.

Fans who would like to wish the Bulldogs well as they board the buses should arrive at the LPHS junior parking lot around 10:05 a.m.  We’ll form a line from the Dog House to the buses to show our support for the players and coaches as they get ready to take on the Titans.  The Bulldogs will leave for the stadium around 10:20 a.m.  

The Football Booster Club will also be adorning Main Street with orange ribbons to demonstrate our community’s support for the team.  If you’d like to cheer for the Dogs as they travel through La Porte on their way to the stadium, please join us on the sidewalks of Main Street at approximately 10:15 a.m.

This is an exciting time for our community, and we are very proud of our LPHS players and coaches!  We wish them all the best this weekend!  Go, Bulldogs!

 Also La Porte won the coin toss for the next round if they beat Port Arthur Memorial.

The next round would be a matchup with Cibolo Steele or San Antonio Reagen and would be at RELIANT STADIUM AGAIN! Probably on Saturday.

Let's focus on the task at hand though, beat Port Arthur Memorial!

It's tough to beat a good team twice, but La Porte has shown so much improvement since the Port Arthur game.  La Porte's first team defense has only given up ONE touchdown since their last meeting in week 9.

Let's not forget La Porte has beaten Port Arthur all five times since they first met in 2006. The Titans will have a major chip on their shoulder.

It's getting really hard waiting all week for the games to be played!
