Mark Guzman - Class of 2013 - Defensive Line

Mark Guzman stepped up big last season giving a great presence along the front seven of the Bulldogs defense.   He made 2nd team all District 21-5A as a junior last season including 7 sacks.  Mark was the smallest member of the defensive line, but played much bigger.  He took advantage of one on one matchups, shedding blocks and penetrating the back field with disruptive plays.  Mark will be back along with Corey Lee and Alex Jones to form one of the best returning defensive lines in memory for La Porte.  All three made the all 21-5A team in 2011.

A offseason in the weight room could transform next season's La Porte front seven into one of the best in Houston.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the three graduated linebackers positions.  We will know more at the end of the month with spring ball beginning.  Hoza Scott will return at one of the outside linebacker positions and he is already considered one of the top recruits in 2014 in the state of Texas.

Exciting times in La Porte.

Offseason Update - It's A Big One

I have been so busy lately and I'm trying to catch up here.  A few things have been happening around La Porte with recruiting of our players by major colleges.

I'll start with RivalsHigh final rankings from the 2011 season.  La Porte ended the season ranked 89th in the nation.  One of the best seasons in La Porte history.  http://highschool.rivals.com/viewrankhs.asp?ra_key=819

On recruiting I'll start with the class of 2012.  Cameron Whilley looks to be a candidate to walk on at Texas State and I'm sure he will turn some heads over there.  Chris Hickey signed on at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.  Aaron Nance-Garrett as previously published signed with Ouachita in Arkansas.  Of course starting QB Josh Vidales had already signed with the University of Houston for baseball.  If I'm missing anyone let me know.

The class of 2013 has some good prospects with Maurice Morris, Corey Lee and Alex Jones participating in the recent Nike Camp in Dallas.  Keith Whitely is showing up on many RB watch lists. I expect we will see a lot more scouts around town next season with the upcoming 2013 and 2014 classes and their star power.

The class of 2014 is making some news with Hoza Scott receiving Rivals #1 prospect spot in Texas.  OL Michael Leagan also made the list at #89 and he's been touring the country to different schools including Florida State and South Carolina.  I was a little disappointed we did not see the likes of Trevor Nelson, Victor Holmes and Jonathan Lewis on the list as well, but they will have plenty of time to impress the scouts.
