La Porte's 7 on 7 team participated in the state qualifying tournament at the Houston Texans practice facility last Sunday and went 2-1 in group play, they did not qualify for the finals due to a 3-way tiebreak scenario. La Porte started the day with a 20-12 win over Montgomery.
In the second game La Porte dropped a 15-14 decision to Fort Bend Ridge Point after being up 14-7 with little time left. Ridge Point forced a safety and got the ball down 14-9. The Panthers scored with seconds remaining to take the win.
In game three La Porte faced Houston Stratford in a must win game and La Porte pulled out a thrilling 42-41 victory in overtime. However due to 3-way tiebreaker rules (total points scored) La Porte was knocked out of the tournament.
Houston Stratford would go on to win the whole tournament, beating the Woodlands and Clear Creek to win the championship. La Porte was the only team to beat Stratford in the tournament.
It was a great showing for the Bulldogs and top performers included QB Jordan Jackson, WR Jahvey Marks and RB/WR Taejon Wearen. The defense played great as well with great leadership shown by CB Malik Graves and Safety Keith Whitely. Everybody fought hard and there will be another chance as the team should play in another state qualifying tournament.
The annual Orange and White Spring Game will be played Thursday evening at 6. Everybody come out and cheer on the boys after all of their hard work this spring!
