Final Clear Springs 55 La Porte 38

It was a close game entering the fourth quarter, as the La Porte Bulldogs rallied back from a 20-0 deficit early in the 2nd quarter to the Clear Springs Chargers, rallying to a 27-24 deficit.  Things did not go the Bulldogs way in the 4th quarter with Clear Springs running back Matt Guidry running for over 200 yards and 4 touchdowns in the final 12 minutes.

Clear Springs came out strong, getting a field goal on their first drive.  La Porte would then have a snap mix-up leading to a 24 yard fumble return for a touchdown (film would later show Clear Springs was offside on the play and the touchdown should have been called back).  The Chargers would score again on a 22 yard pass from Senior Quarterback Zach Cripps.  The first quarter ended with Clear Springs leading 17-0.  Football teams cannot afford to be down by that margin after one quarter, but the Bulldogs would charge back.

In the 2nd quarter La Porte would start a steady comeback.  Springs added another field goal at 9:23 in the 2nd quarter making the score 20-0.  La Porte would then get on the board with a short pass from Senior Quarterback Jordan Jackson to Junior Wide Receiver David Terrebonne in which the Bulldog receiver turned and shot down the sideline running 73 yards for the score.  La Porte Junior Kicker Cesar Silva would add a 24 yard field goal and the Bulldogs were down 20-10 at the half.

The third quarter started with the Chargers answering back.  Cripps would again get a 12 yard touchdown pass.  The Senior Quarterback is simply a load to bring down at 6'3" 210lbs and scrambled all night.  La Porte's defense would begin to corral him in the third quarter forcing multiple punts.  The Bulldogs would score twice on a 20 yard pass from Jackson to Junior Running Back Britt Grant and then a 40 yard run around the right side by Senior Running Back Johnathan Lewis.  Lewis followed a convoy of Bulldog blockers around the end and raced to the end zone.  At the end of the 3rd quarter La Porte had cut  the Clear Springs lead to 27-24 and all the momentum was on the Bulldogs side.

As the fourth quarter started the Bulldogs were full of confidence and it would be short lived.  Clear Springs recognized La Porte gaining momentum on defense against their base offense.  Guidry would step into the wildcat formation quarterback role and run for a 72 yard touchdown, tip-toeing down the sideline to give the Chargers a 10 point lead.  After a La Porte punt, Guidry would strike again out of the wildcat on the very next play with another long touchdown run, this time a 64 yard zig-zagging across the field making the score 41-24 Chargers.  La Porte would answer back as it seemed this would be the most action packed quarter of football we've seen in years.  Jackson would find Terrebonne on a 30 yard pass.  The Bulldog defense could not adjust to the Chargers run game and Guidry would add two more touchdowns, a five yard run and a 44 yard run to put the game out of reach.  Jackson would find Senior Victor Holmes for 12 yard touchdown pass, but it was too little too late.  The Bulldogs fell 55-38.

Jordan Jackson had a big game for the Bulldogs with 260 yards passing and 4 touchdowns. David Terrebonne continued his early season run with 9 catches for 155 yards and two scores.  On defense Seniors Garrison Zaborowski and John Nelson picked up their first interceptions of the year.

The Bulldogs have struggled to a 1-2 start on the year and will take on the 2-1 Brazoswood Buccaneers on Friday at 7pm at Bulldog Stadium.
