La Porte Suffers Season Opening Loss To Clear Brook

The La Porte Bulldogs entered the 2013 season with high expectations, however traveling to Clear Creek ISD stadium last Friday,  the Clear Brook Wolverines were set on shocking the pre-season favorites.  Clear Brook would hand the Bulldogs a 25-21 opening season loss.

La Porte held a 21-11 lead entering the fourth quarter, but uncharacteristically the lead would fade away.  Clear Brook Quarterback James Ramos would connect on two fourth quarter strikes, a 48-yarder to Corey Julks and a 32-yarder to Cody Williams with 1:39 left to give the Wolverines the lead.  The Clear Brook defense held on from there on a furious final drive from La Porte to keep the Bulldogs out of the end zone.

La Porte had lead 7-3 at halftime on Senior Running Back Johnathan Lewis' 5 yard run.

In the third quarter it seemed the Bulldogs had found their groove.  Lewis got on the board again with a one yard plunge, his second of the game to make the score 14-3 La Porte.

Clear Brook's D'Andre Jackson would answer three minutes later with a five yard run and a two point conversion.  Jackson was Clear Brook's player of the game as he sliced up the Bulldogs defense on outside runs (12 carries, 103 yards).  In fact La Porte's defense did a very good job stopping everyone else.  The Wolverines only averaged 2.3 yards per carry despite Jackson's effort.  La Porte lead 14-11 with 5:55 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Bulldogs answered right back with Junior Running Back Britt Grant running tough and elusive with some amazing spin moves.  Grant (13 carries, 67 yards) would finish off the drive with a nine yard scoring run.  The Bulldogs looked to have all the momentum entering the fourth quarter, but could not finish the game off.

Another standout performance for the Bulldogs was Junior Wide Receiver Karl Terrebonne (7 catches, 78 yards).  On defense Junior Jaron Dykstra filled in at defensive end where he made several key stops in the backfield.  Senior Safety Garrison Zaborowski made a few good tackles and couple of pass break ups in the defensive backfield.  Senior Victor Holmes was all over the field as usual and had a huge kickoff return in the 3rd quarter.

La Porte will look to bounce back this week with their first home game of the season against the South Houston Trojans.  South Houston is coming off a 78-13 loss to area number one 4a team Summer Creek.
