The 2-1 La Porte Bulldogs will face the 2-1 Brazoswood Buccaneers this Friday at 7pm at Hopper Stadium in Freeport.
The Bulldogs will be trying to rebound from their 32-8 loss to Clear Springs last week and get back in the win column before district play begins next week.
Last week the Buccaneers defeated Alvin 38-17 to improve to 2-1 on the season. In the second game of the season Brazoswood lost to Angleton 69-28.
La Porte will be looking to improve things on offense after struggling against Clear Springs. Junior Quarterback Jordan Jackson is expected to start and play a big role this week with his arm to open up running lanes for the trio of Bulldog running backs. Senior Running Back Keith Whitely took over the team lead in rushing (281 yards) and will be looking to find the end zone for the first time this season. Junior Running Back Jonathan Lewis (259 yards) will try to find some holes in the Buccaneers front 7.
Brazoswood features a young offense lead by Sophomore Quarterback Keith Washington (338 yards passing, 3 touchdowns) who can also make things happen with his legs. Junior Running Back Ryan Ross (222 yards, 4 touchdowns) is the team's workhorse running back and also leads the team in receiving.
La Porte's defense showed some life last week as the stats did not indicate what was allowed on the scoreboard. A strong effort will be needed again this week against a Brazoswood offense that has averaged 32 points per game. Junior Linebacker Hoza Scott and the Dark Side defense will need to get it in gear for district play.
Brazoswood's defense has shown the ability to stop the pass with Sophomore Safety Maleek Goins picking off two interceptions so far this year. The Buccaneers have been susceptible to the run giving up over 5 yards per carry so far through three games.
La Porte will need to bring up the intensity this week to pick up the win on the road.
