La Porte vs South Houston Preview

This Friday at 7pm the La Porte Bulldogs will face the South Houston Trojans at Pasadena Memorial Stadium on Spencer Highway.

La Porte is coming off of a 20-14 victory in a overtime thriller against Clear Brook.  South Houston is 0-1 after a offensive shootout with Humble Summer Creek last week, going down 69-28.

On offense, new South Houston Quarterback Junior James Davis had a great first varsity start last week with 362 yards and two touchdowns through the air.  His favorite target Senior Wide Receiver Torre Daniel recorded 14 catches for 148 yards against Summer Creek.  Junior Receiver Elton Dyer also had a big game with 5 catches for 129 yards and a score.  Expect South Houston to attempt to air it out again this week.

La Porte's offense fared well in week one against Clear Brook, racking up 385 yards of offense.  Senior Running Back Keith Whitely carried the load on the ground with 135 yards on 22 carries.  Junior Quarterback Jordan Jackson fared well with 70% completion percentage on his passes including 91 yards and a touchdown.  Expect to see more running this week from Junior Running Back Jonathan Lewis and Sophomore Britt Grant against the Trojans.

Not much went right for South Houston's defense in their matchup with Summer Creek.  The Trojan defense gave up 600 yards of total offense and 69 points.  345 of those yards were through the air.  South Houston will have to pick up the pace this week to stay with the Bulldogs.

La Porte's defense gave up 271 total yards week one against Clear Brook, who got a couple good drives in the second half.  The pass defense overall played well with Junior Vic Holmes intercepting a pass, but Clear Brook was not much of a passing team.  This week will be a different challenge for the defense.

The Bulldogs will be looking to cut down the turnovers this week after giving it up four times to Clear Brook.

Lets get a big crowd out to Pasadena!  If you cannot attend, the games are broadcast on legacysportsnetwork.com and on their iPhone app.

  2. I agree, should be a much different game this week. I think they were feeling some pressure last week after a couple of mistakes and things didn't go their way.
